I read the first two books in The Mark of the Lion trilogy recently (before I got sucked into the Twilight books- pun intended). I was really impressed. First of all Francine Rivers is a brilliant author... the strands of plot were woven together so well. I really felt like I was there, you know? The story takes place in the Roman empire during and after the sacking of Rome. It was aweful to read how the Jews were treated. The "games"... yeah. Brilliant. Let's have a death match between unarmed men, women, and children and half-starved lions.
The period did lend itself to violence and Francine doesn't shy away from that, but the thing I was most impressed with was the main character, Haddassa. Her faith was so inspiring. I loved reading about her and all the lives she touched because she dared to let Jesus shine through her.
Thumbs way up... I can't wait until my mom or one of my sisters read these so I have someone else to talk about them with. I do owe Liz a thank you for introducing me to them; for pete's sake she loaned me the books.

I want to read the Mark of the Lion triology. They sound wonderful.
I did read "The Shack" and although it disturbed me quite a bit at times, I loved the way that the trinity was portrayed. It made me love and appreciate the character of each part of the trinity even more. Thanks, Bec, for suggesting it to me.
